The Council of the Government of the Community of Madrid, led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has approved to request the central Executive the declaration of Severely Affected Zone by a Civil Protection Emergency for the municipalities that have suffered the consequences of the intense rains in the region over the last three weeks.
Since March 5th, as explained by the regional Government, a total of 111 municipalities have been affected by the storms. The Community of Madrid has processed a total of 921 cases during these 19 days.

This Monday, the Official Bulletin of the Community of Madrid (BOCM) published the aids of the Madrid Government totaling 10 million euros aimed at municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, allowing them to begin the initial reconstruction works in the affected areas.

Now, without rain, the residents of the affected municipalities are assessing the damage while continuing to drain water from their homes and businesses. The Community of Madrid has already requested from the central Government the declaration of severely affected zone for the 116 municipalities devastated by the unprecedented storms of the last three weeks.

After the storm comes the calm, and also the time to evaluate the damages. Many are already describing them as «incalculable». From flooded crops to factories losing their materials, or businesses that have stopped billing during these 21 days of rain, as has happened in the industrial estate of Paracuellos del Jarama.
