The Paco de Lucía Auditorium at the Art Center was the setting yesterday afternoon for an emotional tribute to Ignacio García de Vinuesa, for his work as mayor of Alcobendas for three terms, from 2007 to 2019.
The mayor, Rocío García Alcántara, emphasized that «it was necessary and timely to highlight the legacy he has left to our city» and recalled that the council unanimously approved in 2021 to carry out this recognition.
«With Mayor Ignacio García de Vinuesa, Alcobendas consolidated its transformation from a town to a major city» – she added – «and I want to thank him for the impeccable legacy of good economic management and excellence in public services that he has left us.»
Rocío García also dedicated some affectionate words to Gisela Jiménez, García de Vinuesa’s wife, «for accompanying Ignacio all these years with the sacrifice of giving up so many hours, evenings, and weekends, and for your involvement and interest in getting to know Alcobendas and in the city’s governance.»
Forever linked to the Art Center
Ignacio García de Vinuesa was surrounded by hundreds of neighbors who wanted to accompany him in this tribute, which included the inauguration of the new name for the Alcobendas Art Center «Mayor García de Vinuesa.»
Historically, our city has paid tribute to its mayors in this way. Carlos Muñoz Ruiz, the first mayor of Alcobendas, gives his name to a street in the North District, and José Caballero Domínguez, mayor between 1982 and 2007, to the Municipal Sports Center on Avenida de la Transición Española, and now, García de Vinuesa lends his name to the Alcobendas Art Center, which he inaugurated on November 16, 2010, and which, under his leadership, became a reference for photography, sculpture, and painting, as a permanent exhibition space for the best artists from the national and international scene.
The event concluded with a small concert by the Camerata Forum Musikae, performing Vivaldi’s «Four Seasons.»
