The central trunk of the A-2 at the height of Calle Corazón de María has now fully reopened to traffic, once the old pedestrian walkway has been dismantled, which is being replaced by a new structure, located just a few meters away, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
Although the closure was scheduled until 2 in the next morning, the good progress of the work has allowed to bring forward the reopening of the road almost twelve hours earlier.
This Sunday, the remaining section will be installed to complete the access from Calle de Santa Hortensia, on the north sidewalk of Avenida de América. Pedestrian traffic between both sides of the A-2 will be guaranteed throughout the process.
The new walkway will improve connectivity between the districts of Chamartín and Salamanca and will have more numerous and better distributed accesses.

In the north area (Chamartín), there will be two ramps — at Corazón de María and Santa Hortensia — and a staircase that will connect both, creating a small elevated plaza.
In the south area (Salamanca), the accesses will be resolved with an accessible ramp on Avenida de Bruselas and a staircase on Avenida de América.
Once these actions are completed, it is expected that in the coming weeks, the structural section of the access to Calle Santa Hortensia will be completed and the rest of the interventions, such as the urbanization of the accesses, gardening, and plantings, will be finished, tasks that will not affect traffic.
