Los carpines rojos y las tencas regresan al estanque tras la limpieza

The delegate of Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility, Borja Carabante, and the delegate councilor of Cleaning and Green Areas, José Antonio Martínez Páramo, introduced the red carp and tench into the lake this Wednesday after it was emptied as part of the annual maintenance work.

The red carps, a freshwater species, have returned to their ‘home’ after being removed during the cleaning, while about twenty tenches have started a new life in the Quinta de los Molinos due to their good adaptation to lakes and ponds.

During the visit, Carabante explained that the emptying is part of the ordinary maintenance work for these types of facilities.

The first homes of the future Madrid Nuevo Norte neighborhood will be delivered in 2029

Additionally, surface work is carried out whenever there is a buildup of debris from fallen leaves and other waste, and once a year, the bottom is cleaned.

Likewise, it was indicated that whenever the basin is emptied, the sludge is removed, and the existing waterproofing is reviewed to check for any fissures or defects that need repair.

Before the emptying is completed, species of fauna linked to the lake (fish and some reptiles) are captured and moved to a nearby, smaller body of water for counting and classification.

The red carps were moved to one of the twin ponds at the Quinta de los Molinos, equipped with a pump to ensure water oxygenation until their reintroduction into the lake.

During this process, the presence of American perches, mosquitofish, and American turtle, classified as invasive exotic species, was also detected.

In compliance with current legislation, the corresponding control measures were applied to them, previously authorized by the Community of Madrid, based on the competencies it holds.

«People come and abandon the animals they have in this pond, causing a lot of harm, not only structurally, but above all to the biodiversity because it ends up with the rest of the species that are native, such as the ones we are reintroducing today,» detailed Carabante.
