31 Mujeres Víctimas del Tráfico se Benefician de Programa de Becas en Madrid

In total, 31 women Trafficking Victims completed a training program promoted and funded by The Municipal Council of Madrid aimed at supporting its partners. Specifically, this program, which is already launching more initiatives, targets women who have managed to leave situations of prostitution or are in the process of doing so.

Participants received Training in two areas: commerce and cleaning of surfaces and furniture in spaces and buildings. In addition to enabling these women to achieve economic autonomy through work, this project also boosts their self-esteem and provides support in building a new life, leaving behind situations of violence, as indicated by the council.

The courses were taught in the last quarter of 2024 at the facilities Mercamadrid and educarte Each course consisted of 480 hours of schoolwork, including theoretical content, acquiring digital skills, job search skills, and non-work placements.

Delegate of social policies, family, and equality, José Fernández, this week awarded diplomas to the participants, acknowledging that this training process has been successfully completed. «You are an example of self-determination and determination, and the diplomas you hold are the result of your strength in difficult times,» appreciated the delegate at the closing ceremony.

At the same time, Fernández emphasized that this municipal initiative is an essential gateway to access Economic and Personal Independence for these women, giving them the ability to «break with the past» to «continue looking towards the future and pursuing new goals, new dreams, to continue playing an important role in society.

Madrid will have a new temporary reception center for victims of violence against women.

Municipal Network

The local council of Madrid has a comprehensive Municipal network for women victims of gender violence, with specific resources for women affected by partner or past relationship violence, cases of sexual violence, and contexts of trafficking and sexual exploitation.

In the specific field of trafficking, the council has a Comprehensive care center for IncéCíe, a facility that provides psychological, social, and legal intervention for victims.

Within this resource, there is also a Mobile Unit aimed at reaching out to women victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation and/or in prostitution contexts in different areas or spaces in the city of Madrid, providing information and referring interested parties to specialized municipal services.

Since December 2021, there has also been a Emergency center for victims of trafficking Mariana Pineda where protected accommodation and comprehensive care are provided to users for a maximum period of three months.

Madrid allocates 1.7 million euros to a new center to help women leave prostitution.

To continue the intervention process, if necessary, the Municipal Council also has Casa de pandora a protected accommodation where women under trafficking and other human rights abuses in prostitution contexts can stay for up to 12 months, and Malala semi-autonomous, where basic needs of women are covered while focusing on forging an independent life.
