Pedrezuela has become the first municipality in the region with the first bus shelter with heating in order to improve the service for travelers. This pilot project will allow the Regional Transport Consortium to evaluate the operation of this prototype during periods of intense cold with the aim of expanding it to other towns in the mountains next year.
The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, visited the town today to see this innovative device, «accessible and highly efficient, demonstrating our commitment to incorporating innovative solutions in Madrid’s public transport, with a special focus on rural areas,» he emphasized.
«It’s a fantasy,» a young man from the town summed up. «I’m not going anywhere,» laughed an elderly lady who has already enjoyed this heated bench.

The system, developed by the company Clear Channel, involves installing a metal bench that incorporates a thermostat and a timer to turn the heating on and off in line with the service schedule.
This device can only be installed in shelters with 24-hour electrical connection. Additionally, all the installation has the necessary protections to ensure the safety of passengers.
Currently, Pedrezuela has 21 bus stops connecting the town to the capital and various surrounding towns such as Buitrago del Lozoya, El Vellón, or San Agustín de Guadalix.
The minister highlighted that the new infrastructures installed in the region are made from 100% recyclable materials and incorporate energy-efficient solutions that are environmentally friendly. He added that if this project is successful, it will be expanded to the other five shelters located in mountain passes.

Currently, excluding the city of Madrid, there are 7,500 bus stops, 4,200 poles, and 3,500 shelters, five of which are in mountainous areas (Braojos, Cercedilla, two in Santa María de la Alameda, and the one presented today).
