The Alcobendas City Council has prepared a comprehensive program of activities to commemorate the ‘International Women’s Day’, and from March 7 to 14, La Menina will wear her purple scarf, the symbolic color of this day.
The program will start on Tuesday, March 4, with «The Women’s Olympics», an interactive theater play aimed at primary school students. On Wednesday, March 5, there will be a «Gala for International Women’s Day» starting at 7 pm at the Alcobendas City Auditorium Theater, where a recognition will be given to Dr. Leticia A. Fernández Friera, a specialist in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology, and there will be a performance by the Gospel Choir.
Commitment to equality
On Friday, March 7, at 11 am, the declaration approved in yesterday’s plenary session will be read in the Plaza Mayor (with the votes in favor of the Popular Party and Future Alcobendas, the abstention of PSOE and Más Madrid, and the vote against Vox). This declaration renews the municipal commitment to promote equal opportunities between men and women and reaffirms the determination of the City Council to advance towards a future where women and girls are protagonists of a fairer, more equitable, and solidarity-based society.
The program is complemented by the «Open House Day» at the Clara Campoamor Women’s House on Thursday, March 6, starting at 6 pm, and the «Womanhood Menopause Conference» from 10 am to 3 pm at the Pablo Iglesias Cultural Center on Saturday, March 8. This conference will include various talks and workshops on health, nutrition, and well-being.
Finally, on Saturday, March 15, at 4:30 pm, also at the Pablo Iglesias Cultural Center, the «Maria Cañizares Memorial» will be held, a mus tournament organized by the Women for Democracy association.
