Acto en memoria de Miguel Ángel Blanco en Alcobendas

Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8, Alcobendas will hold an event in memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco, a councilor of the PP who was kidnapped and murdered by ETA in 1997, coinciding with the XXVIII anniversary.

Participating in this event will be the acting mayor of Alcobendas, Marta Martín; the Minister of the Interior between 1996 and 2000, Jaime Mayor Oreja; the president of the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation, Marimar Blanco Garrido; the Deputy Minister of Justice and Victims of the Community of Madrid, Carmen Martín García-Matos; and the Commissioner of the Community of Madrid for the Assistance to Victims of Terrorism, Rocío López González.

The event will begin with a minute of silence in memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco. Afterwards, Marta Martín will read the Manifesto of the XXVIII anniversary, ‘We are memory’, which recalls the events that occurred between July 10 and 12, 1997, and concludes: “We are convinced that the strength of his Memory helps us to continue fighting against forgetfulness and impunity.”

After the words of the president of the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation and the former Minister of the Interior, the event will conclude with all authorities, spokespersons of municipal political groups, and other attendees laying a white flower next to the Monument to the Victims of Terrorism.

The new government team of Alcobendas has reinstated the solemnity of this municipal event in memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco since the inauguration of Rocío García Alcántara as mayor in June 2023.

During this emotional event in memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco, the teachers from the Municipal School of Music and Dance, Pilar Olmos and Pablo Igualada, will perform several musical pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Giovanni Batista Pergolesi, and Gabriel Fauré.

The event in memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8, at 8:00 PM, in the Victims of Terrorism Park (Paseo de la Chopera, next to the Glorieta de la Menina).
