From today until Saturday, July 19, Alcobendas is the world capital of sport climbing. The Ferial Grounds of Parque de Andalucía is hosting an official stop of the IFSC Climbing World Cup for the first time, the biggest international show of sport climbing. Enthusiasts of this sport will be able to enjoy a unique event, full of adrenaline, excitement, and surprises, which is one of the six unique stops on the global difficulty circuit. The event is organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and Prensa Ibérica, with the support of the Community of Madrid and the City Council of Alcobendas.
The best climbers
Over 170 elite climbers from the five continents have gathered in our city to compete in the difficulty category, climbing a 15-meter-high wall with extreme overhangs and Olympic requirements. Among the competitors are some of the most prominent names in the international ranking, along with the best athletes from the Spanish national team, such as Alberto Ginés, gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.
‘Boulder’ wall and Olympic challenge
Divided into different areas, the venue has a regulatory competition space, but also an exclusive wall that can be used by everyone, combining bouldering and climbing modalities with Autobelay – a system that offers more safety and comfort during the exercise – and will be assisted by specialized monitors. Six meters high and 12 meters wide, it opens its doors for free from today until the 19th. In fact, on the boulder wall, two great Olympians from Alcobendas have today taken on a peculiar ‘challenge.’ On one side, rhythmic gymnast Ana Arnau, Olympian in Paris 2024 with multiple European and World medals. On the other side, the world and European taekwondo medalist, Jesús Tortosa, Olympian in Rio 2016.
Music, good atmosphere, and free entry
Spectators will have the opportunity to see the best sport climbers compete for the world title, but also enjoy many other proposals for these summer days. There will be leisure areas, clinics, exhibitions, and the sale of climbing products. The entire event will be livened up by DJ and presenter Neus González, who will set the rhythm for each day with live mixes. Entry is free, although registration on the event’s website is required.
