The heat is here to stay in Madrid with a yellow warning for high temperatures, which will exceed 36 degrees in the metropolitan area, this Monday and Tuesday from 1 pm to 8 pm, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Thus, maximum temperatures will reach 34 degrees in low areas of the Sierra and 36 in the rest of the Community, with heat affecting regions such as Henares, Sur, Vegas, and Oeste. In towns like Aranjuez, Getafe, or Alcalá de Henares, the mercury may reach 37 degrees.
To deal with the heat, it is recommended to limit sun exposure and protect yourself with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen; eat light meals with fruits and vegetables; stay well hydrated; avoid exercising during the central hours, and take special care with the elderly, children, and chronically ill.
Madrid cools off and activates its urban beach in Madrid Río and 5 misting pergolas
In addition to the municipal and regional pools open since mid-May, Madrid Río’s urban ‘beach’ and the misting pergolas in La Gavia and Plaza de España parks started operating on Friday so that residents and tourists can «beat the heat» during the summer season.
The City Council has expanded this year the cooling areas for citizens in Plaza de Milmarcos, in the Villa de Vallecas district; Calle Murcia, in the Arganzuela district; and Avenida de Oporto, in Carabanchel; which will have temporary low-consumption misters throughout the season. They operate from 11 am to 9 pm until September 15.
