The Plenary has this morning approved by majority a declarative act presented by Vox in defense of the body of local officials with national authorization and in favor of the independence of the Judiciary. These public servants guarantee legality, transparency, and control in the more than eight thousand Spanish municipalities in the face of any local or regional political power and represent a pillar of the Rule of Law. The text supported by PP and Future Alcobendas -PSOE and Más Madrid have opposed- positions against the transfer of powers over these officials to Catalonia, which is considered to give separatism the impunity they need to continue breaking Spain.
The declarative act also rejects the reforms undertaken by the Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, to the Organic Law of the Judiciary and the one that orders the Statute of the Public Ministry. «The reform constitutes a direct attack on judicial independence and the separation of powers» emphasizes this declarative act.
Therefore, the Alcobendas Plenary defends the national habilitated officials and the role they play and expresses its rejection of any transfer of powers over this body. «Pedro Sánchez will hand over legality, transparency, and control of municipal institutions in exchange for staying in La Moncloa,» emphasized the Popular spokesperson, Marta Martín. Likewise, the text expresses the Corporation’s support for the judges and prosecutors who on June 11 already demonstrated in defense of judicial independence, against the government’s attempts to subject Justice to political interests.
In favor of access to housing
Also approved by the majority of the Plenary is a motion requesting measures to support access to housing in the city, especially for the younger population. Presented by Vox, it points out that we are facing a market with skyrocketing prices in both rentals and sales and requests the government team to «increase the public housing developments planned for this term» and «unblock the Los Carriles-Valgrande promotion to accelerate the possible incorporation of these homes into the market.» It has been supported by the Popular Party and Future Alcobendas; the socialist group has abstained, while Más Madrid has opposed.
The Councilor for Urbanism, Jesús Montero, stated that «the supply of affordable public housing will increase by 300% in the coming years.» Montero added that the accommodations facilities on Doctor Ángel Olivares street are progressing well, and the relevant draw will take place soon, as well as the first Board of Directors of Emvialsa will tender the construction work of the Marqués de la Valdavia promotion after the summer.
Support for Regional Houses
The Corporation has also unanimously approved a motion presented by the PSOE this morning to support the Regional Houses of Alcobendas as social and cultural dynamizers of the city through their various activities. The socialist group urges the urgent payment of the corresponding subsidies for 2024 and that the organized activities be disseminated in the municipal magazine SietedíaS under equal conditions, with accurate information. It also requests a management plan for municipal spaces to ensure their availability and proper functioning for the activities of the Regional Houses. The deputy spokesperson of the Popular Party, Félix Casanova, said that «our support for the Regional Houses is absolute and unquestionable.» The councilor announced that the subsidy will be paid in the coming days and that the municipal concession for the cafeteria service at the La Esfera Municipal Center will be resolved shortly.
Overall, the Plenary of Alcobendas has taken significant steps to defend the independence of the Judiciary, support access to housing, and endorse the activities of the Regional Houses as vital elements of the city’s social and cultural fabric.
