The Alcobendas City Council and the conservation entities of the Urbanizations District have sent a letter to the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility demanding solutions to the mobility problems that all the city’s residents, especially those in this district, are facing.
The letter was signed by the Mayor of Alcobendas, Rocío García Alcántara, and the councilor of the Urbanizations District, Cristina Capdevila, as well as by Julio Iranzo, Alejandro López, Beatriz Navarro, and Carlos Osa, representing the conservation entities of La Moraleja, El Encinar de los Reyes, El Soto de la Moraleja, and Parque Empresarial, respectively.
«The City Council and the entities are united, advocating for coordinated solutions to improve access and ensure the quality of life of the residents,» said the Mayor.
No Direct Access to R-2
The letter addressed to Minister Óscar Puente states that «after completing the urban development of La Carrascosa in the coming months, and with the imminent start of the urbanization project of La Solana de Valdebebas, thousands of new families will come to live in the area, increasing mobility problems.» In particular, the Mayor and the entity representatives are «deeply concerned about the lack of direct access from Alcobendas and Solana de Valdebebas to the R-2.» Therefore, they request the Ministry to consider the following solutions: «to execute a new direct connection to the R-2» in this new urban development and «to make the R-2 toll-free in the area of influence of the municipal terms of Alcobendas and Madrid capital.»
Viable Solutions
The Mayor and the neighborhood representatives also criticize the lack of direct exits from the M-12 at the intersection with Paseo del Conde de los Gaitanes and Puente de la Concordia, increasing travel distances for drivers on both the A-1 and urban roads. «We hope that the Ministry of Transport will receive us and be receptive to our requests,» emphasized the Mayor of Alcobendas, Rocío García Alcántara.
Two Other Requests
Additionally, in the letter to Minister Óscar Puente, they address the situation of the residents of El Encinar de los Reyes, whose homes are less than 30 meters from the M-40, creating an insurmountable barrier for this urbanization without a direct connection. Therefore, they request a «direct connection to the auxiliary road of the M-40 from Camino del Encinar street and/or Luis Martínez Feduchi street.»
The letter also includes a fourth request: to reopen the connection between Club El Estudiante and the Madrid airport as an alternative to the M-12.
Rocío García and the neighborhood representatives are available to the Ministry to «hold a meeting and promote these alternative proposals that would improve the quality of life for tens of thousands of residents,» awaiting the response from the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
