Comienza la II Semana de la Salud en Alcobendas con prevención del ictus

Alcobendas has inaugurated its II Health Week, which coincides with the World Health Day and has opened with a day to prevent stroke, followed by up to 35 events, including lectures, round tables, and free medical tests.

The inaugural event takes place at Pablo Iglesias Cultural Center and is the first activity of the educational program designed for all residents, which will continue throughout the week, as stated by the City Council in a note.

Deputy Mayor, Marta Martín, inaugurated this event attended by the Ambassador of Family Schools of the Dacer Foundation, Enrique Ruiz-Escudero, promoter of this event; the manager of the Infanta Sofía University Hospital, Guillermo Ceñal; and healthcare professionals and residents, among others.

Martín emphasized that «good prevention» of risk factors could prevent 90% of stroke deaths, which has become «a major public health problem.»

Specifically, it has been revealed that in Spain, around 120,000 strokes occur each year and every 15 minutes, a person dies from this disease, making it the leading cause of disability in our country.

Alcobendas offers free hearing tests to raise awareness about ear health

Therefore, this week will raise awareness to quickly recognize the symptoms of these episodes, such as sudden vision loss, difficulty speaking, intense and sudden headache, or loss of mobility or sensation in a part of the body.

Alcobendas’ II Health Week has also featured an activity to reduce anxiety and depression, and will continue until next Wednesday with 35 workshops, conferences, and medical tests to improve the quality of life for residents, all free of charge.

Highlights include early detection of visual problems and audiometries, first aid and CPR workshops, blood pressure, glucose, and BMI calculations at various city locations, and addiction prevention workshops for adolescents.
