Alcobendas is commemorating this week the 28th of June, Pride Day with various activities. As part of this celebration, today an institutional declaration was read by the Councilor of Social Welfare, Concha Villalón. The event was attended by councilors of the corporation, municipal workers, and residents.
The declaration, among other things, emphasized that it is «essential for institutions to act decisively against discourses that promote intolerance, establishing effective mechanisms to prevent and address possible situations of discrimination» and urged the Spanish government to financially support «local governments for specific protocols for comprehensive care for victims of aggression motivated by intolerance, prioritizing the protection of minors, trans individuals, and especially vulnerable groups.» It also called for budget allocation for the training of municipal staff and the development of educational and awareness campaigns.
In addition to the reading of the manifesto, workshops have been organized and awareness-raising, training, and information actions have been carried out to commemorate Pride Day. Throughout the week, the Menina, symbol of the city, is displaying the commemorative multicolored Pride flag.
LGTBI Program
The current government has launched the LGTBI Program. It is a social, legal, and psychological individual and group care service aimed at LGTBI+ individuals residing in Alcobendas and their family and relational environment. Its objective is to protect the rights of the community, prevent discrimination situations, and reduce the impact of the stigma that still persists in society.
This service incorporates a dual line of action. On one hand, it provides direct, face-to-face, and individualized attention to those who have been victims of violence or discrimination based on sexual orientation, identity, or gender expression, as well as to those who need guidance, information, or support. This face-to-face attention to LGTBI individuals and their families (by appointment at lgtbi@alcobendas.org) is now offered at Calle Libertad 6, in the Social Services facilities where it is provided comprehensively and openly to the entire population, of any age.
On the other hand, awareness, prevention, and training actions are carried out aimed at professionals and the general public, with special attention to the educational field.
