The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will attend this Saturday the civil flag swearing-in ceremony in Alcobendas, but seated among the public and not in the authorities’ stand. The Ministry of Defense of Margarita Robles does not allow Ayuso to preside over the event as requested by the mayor of the municipality, Rocío García Alcántara (PP). The regional government accuses Sánchez’s Executive of using the Army to attack Ayuso and asks them to stop opposing the Madrid government.
The regional government has denounced that Defense prevented the City Council of Alcobendas from allowing Ayuso to preside over the civilian flag swearing-in ceremony, and even report that the Ministry’s warning was initially stronger, as they supposedly warned them that if Díaz Ayuso attended, «it would be canceled», although finally «Defense changed its criteria» and the limitation is restricted to not presiding over it.
More than 200 people have registered for the flag swearing-in ceremony that will take place this Saturday at 12:00 pm in the Plaza Mayor, presided over by Brigade General Guadarrama XII, Antonio R. Bernal Martín.
The Ministry of Defense vetoes Ayuso from co-presiding a civilian flag swearing-in ceremony in Alcobendas
The Secretary General of the PSOE-M and Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Oscar López, maintains that when there is a change in Madrid, «there will be none of these institutional savagery that Mrs. Ayuso has accustomed us to. They are absolutely absurd controversies.»
«Institutional savagery is what the central government is doing,» responded the Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, in response to the Secretary General of the PSOE-M, Óscar López, from Valdemorillo, after the Madrid government criticized that this year the traditional military parade of the Second of May will not take place, in addition to not allowing the Madrid leader, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to preside over the civilian flag swearing-in ceremony in Alcobendas.
The Madrid government has announced that it will not invite any minister from the Sanchez government, nor the Government Delegate to the events of May 2nd in the Community.
The Government prohibits for the first time the military parade of May 2nd and rekindles the controversy
The Community of Madrid has asked the Government of Spain this Friday for «respect» and to reflect on not behaving like «the class thug».
«That normality would start by respecting the Community of Madrid, respecting its Government by not orchestrating State operations against this government, and by respecting the autonomy we have,» García Martín affirmed, while emphasizing that in that case, normality would be «reciprocal».
The Secretary General of the PP of Madrid, Alfonso Serrano, has encouraged reviewing the archives to see the presence of regional presidents at these ceremonies. «David Pérez has been the mayor of Alcorcón and has held flag swearing-in ceremonies attended by regional presidents, and in other communities the same has happened. And that municipal authority, like the mayor, along with the regional president, were obviously presiding or co-presiding,» he asserted.
