The Community of Madrid has announced that it will not attend this Thursday’s Sectorial Conference on Childhood and Adolescence due to the inclusion of the distribution of unaccompanied foreign minors among the agenda items, a point that was rejected in the conference held on July 8.
The Government will send 647 minor migrants to the Community of Madrid and exclude Catalonia and the Basque Country from the distribution
Last week, Dávila sent a letter to the Ministers of Youth and Childhood and Migrations, Sira Rego and Elma Saiz, criticizing several decisions of the central government regarding migrant minors, such as the «arbitrary» distribution of over 4,000 minors in the Canary Islands or the 400 who will arrive in Pozuelo de Alarcón «without official communication.»
The mayor of Pozuelo warns of the «overcrowding» in the migrant center and criticizes the lack of information
«There is no worse form of corruption than using minors as a tool to stay in power. That is exactly what they are doing. Therefore, I urge you to immediately disavow these proposals, regain institutional respect, and prioritize the best interests of the child over your own political survival,» the councilor expressed in her letter.
Redondo, on Torre Pacheco: «There is an international hate campaign promoted in Spain by the far right»
The measure could be supported by other regions governed by the PP as they believe that the Government is trying to impose a «forced» and «illegal» distribution that violates the principle of territorial equality, as confirmed by several regional executives to EFE.
The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am under the chairmanship of the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, and was expected to be contentious, as some PP-governed regions had strongly opposed the Government’s proposal and have appealed to the Constitutional Court the decree in which it was approved.
The Government’s idea, already communicated to the regions in a preparatory meeting, is to relocate around 3,000 unaccompanied migrant minors from the Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla to other territories, mostly to Andalusia, the Community of Madrid, and the Valencian Community.
