In Aranjuez, a huge downpour of rain that fell early this afternoon has caused flooding in streets, garages, and basements. The mayor, Miguel Gómez, explained that 20 liters per square meter had fallen and the sewers couldn’t handle such a large amount of water. «It’s unbelievable what has fallen in 15 minutes, around 3:30 pm, and there’s no sewer that can handle it,» he said in an interview with Telemadrid.
«We have managed about 200 alerts that have reached the Local Police headquarters,» added the mayor.
Rain causes numerous incidents in the southeast of the Community of Madrid
Between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, 112 of the Community of Madrid has handled 89 incidents, with 40 interventions by the Community Firefighters in the south and east of the region, mainly due to small floods in basements and garages.
Only in Aranjuez, there have been 57 incidents managed by 112, with 20 interventions by the Community Firefighters. The roads in the municipality are all operational.
