The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and her counterpart in Extremadura, María Guardiola, will hold the Institutional Collaboration Meeting Extremadura-Madrid next week, two days of work that will have as a backdrop the «common concern» for the future closure of the Almaraz nuclear power plant which «will put at risk important challenges facing the societies of both regions.»
Ayuso will travel to Mérida on Monday and Tuesday with part of the Council of Government — the councilors of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García; Economy, Finance and Employment, Rocío Albert; Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo; and Environment, Agriculture and Interior, Carlos Novillo — to discuss with the Extremaduran Government programs and actions in the economic, social, and cultural fields for the benefit of citizens, as reported by the Madrid Government in a statement.
«It has been scientifically proven that nuclear energy is one of the safest ways to produce electrical energy.»
It will be on Tuesday when they visit the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant, which has the cessation of operations scheduled between 2027 and 2028 by the central Government, as it considers «this decision is critical for the electrical supply and regional economic development.»
In 120 Minutes, we spoke with Alfredo García, a nuclear energy advocate, who states that «it has been scientifically proven that nuclear energy is one of the safest and most sustainable ways to produce electrical energy.»
«What we have is a closure plan that was in the PSOE’s electoral program when they came to the elections, that is, the Socialist Party aimed to close nuclear power plants and proposed this closure plan to the electricity companies, which is negotiable; practically all advanced countries in the world are betting on nuclear energy,» García clarified.
Aagesen on the concerns of Autonomous Communities about nuclear closure: «Security of supply is the basic premise»
The third vice president and minister for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, has stated that security of supply is the «basic premise» in each of the planning discussions that are put on the table.
She responded during her participation in the Europa Press Informative Breakfasts when asked about the summit that the Extremaduran and Madrid governments will hold on the 24th and 25th, which will include a visit by the two presidents, María Guardiola and Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant (Cáceres); as well as the concern expressed by Castilla-La Mancha at the last Energy Sector Conference, where it stated that the operation of the Trillo Nuclear Power Plant (Guadalajara) is «important» until the autonomy achieves «100% renewables.»
