Más Madrid has left the Plenary Session of the Assembly of Madrid this Thursday after the president of the regional Chamber, Enrique Ossorio, took the floor away from deputy Hugo Martínez Abarca for «criticizing the judiciary.»
It was the bill (PROPL) from Más Madrid that requested a legislative amendment for members of the judicial career to disclose their assets and activities.
«In this parliament, criticism of the Judiciary will not be allowed, as all the gentlemen deputies know,» Ossorio stated, adding that he feels it «unpleasant that they don’t like the judiciary’s performance and independence.»
Tension in the Assembly of Madrid due to interventions on Israel and Gaza
Abarca, in defense of the PROPL, stated that the Government of Spain is «subjected» to «harassment» by «some judges» and targeted former president José María Aznar, who said that in light of what is «happening,» he could «do what he can,» while reproaching the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, for allegedly saying that «some judges and journalists are giving their best.»
At this point, Ossorio interrupted him while Abarca responded that he did not have the authority to do so. The spokesperson for the party, Manuela Bergerot, also criticized, and was also reprimanded by the President of the Assembly.
The bench chanted ‘freedom’, while Ossorio stated that the legislative branch does not have the «right to criticize the Judiciary.»
