The ‘European Triangular Strength Tournament-Alcobendas European City of Sport’ organized by the National Strength League (LNF) in collaboration with the City Council will take place on the esplanade of the Valdelasfuentes Sports City on Saturday, April 26th. The event will feature the Spanish and current runner-up of the National Strength League, Matthew Riddall, facing off against the Frenchman, Alexandre Hulin, and the Englishman, David Jonah Wright.
The three athletes will have to overcome five challenges:
– Truck pull: standing with harnesses, drag an 8-ton tractor head along a 20-meter track in under 60 seconds.
– Apollon bar lift: lift a 130 kg Apollon bar for maximum repetitions above the head with arms fully extended as many times as possible, without placing it on the ground and lifting from the shoulders, in under 60 seconds.
– Duck walk: transport a 198 kg artifact over twenty meters with both hands in a duck walk in under 60 seconds.
– Front hold: maintain a 30 kg artifact with arms parallel to the ground for as long as possible.
– Farmer’s walk: carry two 160 kg artifacts in each hand over twenty meters in under 60 seconds.
2025 National Strength League Tournament
Simultaneously, the ‘2025 National Strength League Preliminary Tournament’ will be held at the same location and time, where thirteen of Spain’s strongest men will participate in the same challenges as the triangular tournament with slight variations in weights and/or distances.
The top three finishers in the tournament will join the five qualifiers from the previous year, including Spanish athlete Matthew Riddall, to form the eight elite athletes who will compete in the four official tournaments of 2025.
Return to ‘Alcobendas, European City of Sport’
The National Strength League (LNF) was first held in 2008, with Alcobendas being one of the municipalities where it premiered alongside Arévalo and Córdoba. It has returned to our city on six other occasions.
It was an initiative by Emilio Marquiegui, a sports TV commentator, to promote this spectacular sport, which is deeply rooted in various parts of the world, especially in Northern Europe and North America. All tournaments are supervised by reputable Powerlifting or Weightlifting judges of national and international caliber, and endorsed by prestigious associations and federations, such as the Spanish Organization of Strength Sports, among others.
The two tournaments this Saturday add to the over 70 sporting events already held in the municipality this year and are further evidence of the commitment to sports that has earned Alcobendas the title of ‘European City of Sport 2025’.
