Una ‘cadena de vida’ salva a un hombre de Fuenlabrada con infarto

A 50-year-old man managed to save his life in Fuenlabrada thanks to a ‘chain of life’ in which a neighbor, who witnessed the incident, participated, along with the «immediate and effective action of the emergency services of the Local Police

The events took place when a man suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at a sports center in the city. The 50-year-old received initial assistance from a woman who witnessed the incident.

She performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, using a defibrillator while members of the Fuenlabrada local police, belonging to the Emergency Care Section (SERPOL), were on their way.

The officers, a man and a woman, continued resuscitation by also opening the airways of the unconscious person. Another pair of officers joined the intervention. They kept him stable until a police vehicle with basic life support took over the situation.

Resuscitation operations continued until the arrival of the SUMMA UVI, whose professionals, assisted by advanced life support, managed to «reverse the arrest and transport the man to the hospital alive.»

The Councilor for Citizen Security, Raquel López, stated that «a survival chain that highlights the vital importance of having tools and knowledge that facilitate a rapid and effective intervention to reverse these critical situations.»

The chain of life saves a woman in Las Tablas

The man was treated at the hospital and is now back home recovering from the serious incident, although undergoing rehabilitation to regain full mobility, according to municipal sources.

The Fuenlabrada City Council has had an emergency unit (SERPOL) for over a decade that provides initial intervention and medical assistance.

The twenty-member team of officers has received specialized training and also has a vehicle equipped with basic life support materials.

«Their prompt arrival at the scene of an incident and proper care of the victim until medical assistance arrives is very important and can make the difference in keeping the person alive until a UVI arrives,» concluded Raquel López.
