The City Council of Alcobendas and the conservation entities of the Urbanizations district have sent a letter to the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, demanding «solutions to mobility problems» and the traffic jams that «all the city’s residents, especially those in this district, endure,» such as implementing a new direct connection to the R-2.
Among other issues, the letter points out that, after completing the urban development of La Carrascosa in the coming months, and with the «imminent» start of the urbanization project for La Solana de Valdebebas, there will be «thousands of new families moving to this area of Alcobendas, increasing mobility problems.»
In particular, the mayor and the entity representatives are «deeply concerned» about the «lack of direct access» from Alcobendas and Solana de Valdebebas to the R-2, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
The Consortium expands a bus connecting Madrid with Alcobendas and passing through La Moraleja
Therefore, they request the Ministry to consider implementing a new direct connection to the R-2 in this new urban development, and to «make the toll on the R-2 free for use» in the area of influence of the municipalities of Alcobendas and Madrid capital.
The mayor and the neighborhood representatives also criticize that the M-12 «lacks direct exits» from the intersection with Paseo del Conde de los Gaitanes and Puente de la Concordia, leading to «increased journeys for drivers on both the A-1 and urban roads.»
In addition, the letter also censures Puente for the situation of the residents of El Encinar de los Reyes, «whose homes are less than 30 meters from the M-40, creating an insurmountable barrier for this urbanization without a direct connection.»
Hence, they request a «direct connection» to the auxiliary road of the M-40 from Camino del Encinar or Luis Martínez Feduchi Street.
Lastly, the letter includes a fourth request, which is to reopen the existing connection between Club El Estudiante and the Madrid airport as an alternative to the M-12.
García Alcántara and the neighborhood representatives offer to meet with the Ministry to promote these proposals that would enhance the quality of life for tens of thousands of residents.
Alcobendas and Sanse demand improvements in Cercanías trains and the duplication of the A-1 from the Ministry of Transport
The City Council recalls that this is the second letter addressed to the Ministry of Transport requesting solutions to residents’ mobility issues, following an initial one sent in October 2023, signed by the mayors of Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes, which denounced «the neglect and continual delays of the Cercanías trains and demanded the duplication of the A-1.»
