El Ministerio de Sanidad no colabora en aliviar la escasez de profesionales.

The Health Councillor, Fátima Matute, has stated this Saturday that her team is fighting «tooth and nail» to ensure that the health center staff is at full capacity, but «the Ministry does not make it easy for us nor does it help.»

Specifically, Matute complains that the Government does not promote a National Human Resources Plan, does not authorize six teaching units in the Community of Madrid, and does not homologate extracommunity professionals.

Health professionals and patients have called for a demonstration this afternoon from Callao Square to the Ministry of Health headquarters to protest the «critical situation» at Los Rosales health center, whose professional staff has been reduced by almost half in recent weeks, despite serving a population of 40,000 people.

In statements to the press, Matute explained that at the moment there is a process of professional mobility that is agreed upon with the unions in the Sectorial Table and has caused some professionals to change from one center to another.

Currently, there are approximately 60% of shifts covered, according to the Councillor, who hopes that when the mobility process ends, the staff can be restored to provide satisfactory service to all patients.

Matute has also stated that the Ministry of Health has denied Madrid «the accreditation of six teaching units,» an initiative that does not seek «political gain,» but rather aims to train more professionals who can be available to the people of Madrid in the future.

Healthcare workers and patients demand solutions now

After two gatherings at the health center, workers and patients from Los Rosales health center, belonging to neighborhood associations and the Villaverde for Health platform, have organized a march in central Madrid with the slogan «Primary Care in Villaverde cannot endure more mistreatment. Solution now!»

«The Los Rosales health center is overcrowded while the Butarque health center remains unopened. It is impossible to schedule a medical appointment by phone or through the web application. Only through a nearly one-hour in-person wait can we be seen, with waiting times of several weeks for an appointment,» explained the organizers of the protest in a statement.

This situation has significantly worsened since February 5th, when its staff was practically halved due to the departure, without replacement, of several professionals.

In response to «community pressure,» the Health Department has decided to incorporate three new doctors, but without guaranteeing stability or continuity in their positions. «It is a temporary patch that does not solve the problem,» said neighborhood collectives before emphasizing that «the professionals are exhausted, unable to provide dignified care because the Community of Madrid does not provide the necessary resources to the health center.»

To address the current care deficit, neighborhood entities demand the filling of all medical and nursing positions at Los Rosales health center and the immediate opening of the Butarque health center to offer dignified, accessible, and quality healthcare. With this goal in mind, they have sent letters to the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to the Health Councillor, to the Central Care Directorate, and to the Patient Care Unit.
